A few years ago, Britt had made me some hand shapes for a couple WSL wild card spots I was given—Fiji and J-Bay. With both those waves in mind, the board we were going for had to be super versatile as an all-around shortboard. After some refinements that board became the Happy, and from there Britt made some more tweaks with the rocker and contours, and some changes to the tail block that made the board faster and looser, which of course led to even better turns. The Two Happy is pretty much just a modern performance shortboard, but with a little bit more moderate rocker profile. It’s been working good for me for the past couple of years. When the waves are a bit on the smaller side, which is pretty often where I live, I grab a NeckBeard 2 with Spine-Tek. When the surf gets good in the winter here or when I go on a surf trip, I’m grabbing my Two Happy for sure.”\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMike February on the TWO Happy -\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\"Yeh I’d say that I’ve gone from mainly having a variety of performance shortboards in my quiver to having a bunch of alternative boards and just one go-to shortboard model that I know I can always rely on. So, with having just one performance board in my quiver I am trying to avoid getting boxed into a shortboard that goes well in only certain ideal conditions. I’d rather have a good all-arounder that I can ride it when it’s shitty and when it’s firing. The thing I have to say about Two Happy is that after riding some alternative stuff for a while the transition onto the Two Happy has been easy. I used to ride the original Happy model with a few adjustments that Britt would make but the Two Happy feels like it has those adjustments in it just as a stock board. It’s a little wider tail, and a little less foam in the nose area of the Happy. It’s super forgiving but at the same time very responsive. I think it’s also nice to order a shortboard with a little bit more volume so that it’s not too knifey. The kind of conditions where you want to rip and aren’t feeling the groveler vibes, and at the same time maybe not quite the epic stuff you would use your high performance shortboard for. To achieve this goal, Britt shortened the rail to create a curvier outline, especially through the tail area. For both the entry and exit rockers he lowered them to increase paddle and planing speeds to cover a broader range of conditions. While it can also be enjoyed as a single-fin, the side-fin placement is too far forward to work properly as a twin. So, when updating our popular “CI Mid” to accommodate two fins, we once again worked with the Mid’s co-designer Devon Howard. After riding multiple R\u0026amp;D revisions with various fin placements—and adding tweaks to both tail rocker and overall dimensions—Devon concluded: “A really great board just got even better.”\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Mid Twin is best described as an incredibly responsive, spicy mid-length that allows riders to draw smooth - classic lines with effortless trim speeds while still offering the high levels of performance customers expect from Channel Islands. Riders may also experience surprisingly high top-end speeds that seamlessly and confidently flow into quick, drivey bottom turns or redirections out on the open face.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThanks to added lift from the larger twin fins, we were able to cut down the board’s length by 1” from the original Mid dims—resulting in crisper turns through critical sections. Although it called for a slightly shorter rail line, we wanted to keep the Mid Twin’s stock volume (liters) as close to the original as possible for optimal paddling—so a tad bit of width and thickness was added. To help the board perform even better rail to rail and be more sensitive through turns when you need it, we added just a touch more tail rocker. Team riders have shared they are sometimes going as much as 4 inches shorter than the original Mid because of all these updates with fins, dims and rocker—as well as the fact that we built the shorter sized Mid Twins with more generous volume than our original Mid stock dims. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs for the finishing touches, we kept the same minimalist logo as the original Mid—the exact logo Al put on his boards in the early ’70s.
